As plastics themselves are subject to an ageing process, the tanks are usually designed for a theoretical use period of 25 years maximum. The use period can also be limited to a shorter period for specific media, the installation of comparative samples for interim material tests and / or recurring tests with inspection of the inside of the tank may have been specified.
Expiry of the defined life does not necessarily mean immediate replacement of the plastic tank. However, proper checking of the internal condition of the storage tank and for chemical and mechanical damage is necessary.

Kustan draws up the necessary documents for a change notification. All documents are submitted to an expert assessor organisation (e.g. TÜV Rheinland Industrieservice GmbH). These tests are performed by plastics experts authorised by the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) in Berlin or other competent employees of expert assessor organisations.
